Basic and Commonly Used Character Flashcards
Basic Chinese characters
are single characters, e.g.
上,中,下,
日,
月,etc.
Most of basic characters
are pictograph and can be used as radicals to form
new characters.
By learning these basic characters, students will understand the structure
of Chinese characters. It will be easy for them to learn new words. The picture on each flashcard helps students make connections
with the meaning of the character. Teacher/ Parent may play basic
character
flashcard games with students to make learning Chinese fun.
Among
thousands of Chinese characters, there are only about 600 most commonly used
characters which contain 82% of reading material. Knowing hundreds of most
commonly used characters is far more important than knowing thousands of
uncommonly used characters. To focus on the most commonly used characters
will speed up students' Chinese learning process and give them the
confidence needed to move on to
read.
How do I know what are the most commonly used characters ? And what characters
should my child learn first? Good questions. These used to be our
questions too. Now we figured them out for you. We divided the Commonly Used
Characters by levels. The lowest level is, the most used characters
are. This
allows students to study one level at a time and not feel overwhelmed.
Basic and commonly used
character flashcards will
allow anyone - regardless of his/her background or experience – to learn
Chinese effectively and easily.
