Chinese is not hard, it’s just different.  Most languages use letters, but Chinese uses characters. You can’t sound them out, but you can treat them as pictures. Just like you don’t have to know every word in the English language, you don’t have to recognize all the characters in Chinese - you just need to focus on basic and commonly used characters.

Definition:  Basic Characters are single characters. Most of basic characters are pictograph and can be used as radicals to form new characters.
Commonly Used Characters (CUC) are the characters that repeatedly appear in Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing.  

   DID YOU KNOW… that if you know 300 CUC, you can read 69% of reading materials?   
   DID YOU KNOW… that if you know 400 CUC, you can read 74% of reading materials?  
   DID YOU KNOW… that if you know 500 CUC, you can read 79% of reading materials?  
   DID YOU KNOW… that if you know 600 CUC, you can read 82% of reading materials?
